Version 2.0

Version 2.0

We are currently working on Version 2.0 of the original MTV book and are looking for great examples at different grade levels, subject areas, and contexts. If you have used one of the original thinking routines (or even adapted it or combined it with other routines), we’d love to hear from you. Pleas share you examples for possible inclusion as an example for the “Uses and Variations” section.

In these examples we are wanting to communicate that thinking routines get used with intention as part of larger agenda of developing students as thinkers. NOT as activities! Some of the things we are hoping to capture in each vignette are:

  • Why did you choose this particular routine? What were you hoping it might do for students?

  • How did you introduce the routine in terms of framing the lesson’s purpose.  We are working hard to communicate these aren’t activities to jazz up a lesson

  • What were the thinking and learning moves that you wanted want to make routine for your students?

  • Were there any challenges or difficulties as students progressed through the routine? Anything that needed additional explanation or support?

  • How did students sharing responses so that it felt like there was collective meaning making and not just an individual endeavor? Where did the lesson take the learning? What are the next steps?

  • Teacher reflections on what they learned.
