The research behind Intellectual Character is the basis for much of my current work on creating cultures of thinking in classrooms and nurturing students thinking dispositions. In the book, I lay out the argument for why schools need to focus on developing students intellectual character and then look at classrooms where teachers effectively do so. Before becoming a researcher at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, I taught mathematics at both the middle and elementary school levels. These books are some of my ideas for teachers about how to teach mathematics in a way that focuses on understanding. Some are a bit hard to find in print, but I believe all are available from the Project Zero Bookstore.
As the Principal Investigator and Director of the Creative Classroom Project, I produced a number of videos on creativity in the classroom. Disney Learning Partnership distributed these for a number of year, but has stopped production. While the videos are no longer readily available, you can download a copy of the book in PDF format by clicking the images below.
I also produced the Visible Thinking DVD that features teachers at the International School of Amsterdam using a variety of Thinking Routines.
